About Us

Family owned since 1910, Western Nebraska Bank has been known for the friendliness and personal relationships that characterize a rural community. Today our progressive leadership is looking ahead to the opportunities of the next hundred years as agriculture and banking technology develop locally and globally.

Western Nebraska Bank is owned by Western Bancshares, Inc., a bank holding company led by Michael Kelly of North Platte, NE. Western Bancshares is a small group of investors with strong backgrounds in agriculture and bank management. Mr. Kelly is a third generation rancher with ranching interest in Lincoln and McPherson Counties. Curtis Heapy is President and also a shareholder who has been with the bank since 1997. Board members include Mike Kelly, Cynthia Kelly, Curtis Heapy, Marcy Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Kert McKeone, Janet Mueller, Carol Hanes and David Hamilton.

Western Bancshares, Inc., opened a Western Nebraska Bank Loan Production Office in North Platte as well as assumed all of the deposits and majority of the assets of Purdum State Bank in 2012. January 1, 2013 the bank’s present locations in Curtis, North Platte, and Purdum changed their name to Western Nebraska Bank. The name change brings all banking locations under one name and allows them to represent the same identity and brand. In 2013 the North Platte location became a full service branch to better serve it's customers in the area. In 2015, Western Nebraska Bank moved to a new location in North Platte, opened a Mortgage Department, as well as purchased Bank of Paxton.

With a long history of strength, stability, safety, and service, the future is bright for Western Nebraska Bank and its loyal customers. Local ownership, local decision making, and quality people combine to continue the tradition of creating superior long term customer relationships.
